So you want to be Classroom Volunteer !
Morpeth First School we continually strive to provide the children in our care with the best all round education possible. In order to support us in this, we are always pleased to welcome volunteers into the classroom.
Volunteers work under the direction of the class teachers, supporting children in a range of ways:
- Sharing books with individual or small groups of children
- Helping children to acquire basic skills
- Playing games to support learning
- Art and craft activities
- Developing simple computer skills
- Accompanying visits
- Cooking activities
- Sharing particular experiences or skills with children
If you wish to help but would rather not be in class, there is always the opportunity to make simple classroom resources and games that can be used by children within the school.
No formal qualifications are required – but a sense of humour helps! You need to have a caring attitude and be able to maintain confidentiality. You must also be checked through the Criminal Records Bureau (DBS clearance), this can sometimes takes a few weeks to clear.
Volunteers can come in either on a regular basis or for specific activities as their circumstances allow. You can volunteer for as little as half an hour or as long as a day, depending on the time you have available.
It can sometimes be difficult for children to focus on their designated task within class if their parent is working with other children. We would therefore encourage potential volunteers to consider working in an alternative class to that of their child.
If you feel you can support us in any of these ways, please contact Mrs Graham in the School Office for more information.
